i created this piece to submit to the “outsider art fair.” they opened a special section for anyone to offer a piece with the theme “vision for the future of women.” my artwork is of an african (american?), latina or non-white woman standing on a “liberated earth.” she announces she is “confident, happy, secure and fulfilled.” on the earth, women (perhaps men too) have their hands raised and clasped and they are all saying “me too. me too.” our sister and brother female (and male) animals are liberated (from human domination and exploitation) as well, so the fish smiles as does the bird above and the mother hen and her chicks. the pig joins in with “me too!” and the cow, of course, says “MOO too.” this inspired the animal rights “MOO too!” movement, linking the struggles of all oppressed beings for the liberation of ALL.
p.s. i chose the title “future fulfilled,” taking from the woman in the piece claiming she IS fulfilled and because we create a bright future by envisioning it taking place, NOT in the distant Future, but in the NOW i.e. “the future is NOW.” and so it is … full filled.
